There are 2 main types of MODUS English Programmes. They are MODUS Speaking & Listening Programme (S&L) and MODUS Reading & Writing Programme (R&W). Both programmes are conducted in a small-class setting, which holds 8 to 10 students per class on average.

The reason that we have these 2 types of English programmes is to provide a focus as well as a clearly defined key learning outcome in each class. MODUS Speaking & Listening classes are all taught by trained native English teachers, with the aim of getting students used to communicating in English in the most natural manner, and raising their confidence in doing so during the process. As for MODUS Reading & Writing classes, the key characteristic is that we provide the structure of good written English, and hence a platform with which students can let their creativity run wild and produce a good piece of English writing.

Speaking & Listening Programme (S&L)

Every student has their interesting viewpoints and brilliant ideas. It is just when they are required to express these opinions in English, confidence levels immediately drop down a notch and all we hear in the end is a very much simplified version such as ‘okay’.

With this fairly common problem in mind, S&L is designed to enrich students’ repertoire of English expressions and common phrases so that they can communicate in English confidently and effectively, and therefore handle themselves well in all sorts of real-life situations.

All classes are conducted by native English teachers and we strictly follow the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

There are 12 levels in S&L. Our Head of Student Programmes will assign students to the class that is best suited to their respective levels based on the assessment results. In addition, there are 2 half-yearly tests, the results of which will determine whether the students would be promoted to the next level.

For further information about the programme, please give us a call or visit the Centre for a detailed syllabus.

Reading & Writing Programme (R&W)

Without a clear guideline at school, students are finding it hard to even complete a passage without making any mistakes, let alone producing a good, coherent piece of writing. In order to rectify this common problem, MODUS has designed R&W in such a way that students will be exposed to different types of writing, where they will learn about the essential structures that contribute to an effective composition, and their foundation in Grammar and sentence structure will be greatly strengthened.
