Introduction of School Enhancement Services

MODUS SES are set up to serve school students, teachers and the schools themselves. We understand all the difficulties currently facing each school – time required for other things is too much and that could be spent on education is too little. Education needs time. Education also needs planning and preparation. Coupled with all the on-going changes, such as the reduction in class size, the New Senior Secondary (NSS) educational system, and other derived changes, at the end of the day it is the students who are going to suffer the most.

Everyday schools, just like any other organisations, have to manage its exposure to the outside world, namely the media; teachers have to juggle between two jobs as they are expected to teach and act as administrators at the same time; students feel like they are working in a factory, where they ‘receive’ and ‘produce’ mechanically day in and day out. Who is going to step back and think for a moment as to how to solve these problems? This pressure cooker is operating at its maximum capacity already, and pressure just keeps on building. Evidence of this pressure getting out of hand is reported on news every day and anyone must be saddened by it.

SES are not wishfully thinking we can change the Hong Kong education system for the better. Our role is to observe the various needs of schools, design and provide high-quality programmes using our resources, so that schools can re-focus on their main function, which is to educate the next generations.

Quality Assurance

Proposal drafting assistance

We are formed by experienced veterans in the Hong Kong education industry. It is our expertise in obtaining the latest news coming from the Education Bureau, and designing the most suitable programmes accordingly. These know-how enables us to assist the teachers-in-charge in drafting the whole proposal so that the whole application process will be smooth, relieving the teachers the extra workload.

Programme Design Team

Our Programme Design Team is able to come up with the best-fit tailor-made programmes according to the school’s specific needs. The design of all School Enhancement Services evolves from the most traditional teaching modules, and our teaching philosophy revolves around the belief ‘Smile & Accomplish’. Students will truly learn if they enjoy the learning experience.

Professional tutors

MODUS is focused on bringing through professional tutors who all share our belief. They are all professionally qualified and match the teaching philosophy of SES. These MODUS tutors are required to go through an evaluation at the completion of each programme so as to ensure quality.

Close collaboration with schools

We emphasise the close communication as well as collaboration with schools. It is important for us to be able to match both the school’s expectations and further requirements. Regular reports will be produced for schools as a reference, so that the most up-to-date information about the programmes is available to all parties.

Student evaluation reports

Individual student evaluation reports will be provided after the completion of each student programme, and schools will be able to follow up with their progress efficiently.

Scope of services

School Services

Schools can no longer simply focus on producing academic results. The requirements of NSS, such as the arrangements for Student Learning Profile (SLP) and Other Learning Experiences (OLE), and the effects of class-size reductions on schools structurally, all have to be taken care of. Moreover, the daily news about stress-related problems of both teachers and students, together with the close scrutiny of the media, is not doing the school’s image any favours at all. Prevention is better than cure, and the need for both risk assessment and crisis management cannot be ignored. Our services, in these 2 areas in particular, are second to none in the education sector.

Teacher Assistance

MODUS is aware that the number of news as well as surveys about teacher complaints is on the rise, and there are no signs of it abating. As a result, we have set up close collaboration with experts of related industries and designed a series of programmes for various needs, such as Stress Management and Effective Administrative Skills.

In order to raise awareness of the importance of stress management, SES will provide a free stress management workshop for every school in the 2011-12 academic year.

Student Programmes

Our Student Programmes are designed solely based on the students’ real needs. With regards to entry into higher education, we have interview preparatory programmes for to-be-secondary school students and to-be-university students. For these new secondary school students, Summer Briding Programmes are also available for schools to subscribe. Then, more academically orientated programmes such as those for Other Learning Experiences (OLE) and English supplementary programmes for both primary and secondary school students have been running with much success. Details of our OLE programmes will be sent to all schools by mail.

Additionally, we are proud to have invited Hong Kong representatives on board to conduct sports programmes such as hockey, lacrosse and badminton at school. Other knowledge-based programmes such as personal finance and art appreciation are also available for schools to pick from.

1. Call MODUS at 2803 2689 or email to ses@modus.hk. Please leave the school name, contact details and the description of services required.
2. A detailed proposal will be provided within 2 working days.
3. Upon the acceptance of proposal, the SES team will follow up with all the arrangements, reporting to the client at every step of the way.
4. The actual programme / activity takes place.
5. We make it our responsibility to provide the school with evaluations on individual students for reference.
